The methodology Dr Znidarich has successfully used for numerous large macachine uprates essentially consists of generator data collection, on-site pre-design generator performance testing, complete machine electromagnetic, thermal and performance analysis, and final design output.
Close to 50 generators were successfully upgraded or uprated, in one case by 56%.
ELECTRICAL MACHINERY UPGRADES AND UPRATES
During the last 35 years Dr Znidarich has succesfully carried out engineering for upgrades and uprates of about 50 large electrical machines (hydro and turbo generators, and motors).
Depending on machine condition assessment, level of required output uprate, and economic and commercial issues, the scope of a generator uprate may include uprated stator winding, new or re-insulated rotor field excitation winding, new stator core, upgrade to static excitation system, new stator frame, or stator frame modifications, rotor rim modifications, generator bearing upgrades, improvements to the cooling air circuit, and provision of additional condition monitoring equipment.
